Overview

Based on the concept of “Good seafood for thriving oceans and a sustainable future” UMITO SEAFOOD is a seafood brand that connects consumers with fishers working toward marine restoration and sustainability. By sharing the unique stories of fishers alongside their catch, we create a system where consumer choices directly contribute to marine ecosystem conservation and resource recovery. Our goal is to foster a positive cycle where consumer support empowers fishers and drives ocean restoration. To date, our products have been featured in more than 30 hotels and restaurants, primarily across Tokyo.

Our Seafood

■ Certified Sustainable Seafood

Seafood certified by globally trusted standards such as MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) and ASC (Aquaculture Stewardship Council).

Examples: Onagawa Coho Salmon, Oku Oyster, Kumamoto Red Sea Bream, etc.

■ Seafood from Sustainable Fishery Projects

Seafood sourced from fishers actively engaged in dedicated projects aimed at marine environmental conservation and long-term fishery sustainability.

Examples: Tomamae Giant Pacific Octopus, Hiroo Japanese Sardine, Tokyo Bay Japanese Sea Bass, Murotsu Set-net Catch, etc.

■ Seafood from Fisher-Led Voluntary Resource Management Effort

Seafood managed under voluntary regulations set by fishers themselves. These criteria are stricter than prefecture-mandated rules and are tailored to the actual ecological conditions of their specific marine areas.

Examples: Akkeshi Asari Clam, Fukiagehama Japanese Moon Scallop (Tsukihigai), etc.

■ Seafood that Helps Restore Seaweed Beds and Fishing Grounds

Seafood resulting from the intentional harvest of species that deplete seaweed beds and juvenile shellfish. Through meticulous post-harvest handling and preparation (shime), these fish are brought to market at peak flavor.

Examples: Okayama Black Sea Bream, Murotsu Set-net Mottled Spinefoot (Aigo), etc.
