Overview

UMITO SEAFOOD is a seafood brand created by UMITO Partners to connect consumers with fishers who protect the ocean through sustainable practices – a brand built on the belief that the simple act of eating can help sustain the sea.

In February 2024, UMITO SEAFOOD launched its first original products – a ready-made pasta sauce and an ajillo – on its online store (umitoseafood.com), followed by in-store sales in April.

Each item was developed around three guiding principles: no additives, full traceability, and care for marine resources. By sharing the stories behind each item, we aim to foster appreciation for sustainable fisheries, inspire more fishers to adopt responsible practices, and create a positive cycle where healthier oceans and thriving communities grow together.

Product Information

Lemon Basil Pasta Sauce with Hokkaido Octopus

Made with octopus from Tomamae, Hokkaido — a coastal town where fishers are working to sustain both their livelihoods and the sea they depend on. Coarsely cut octopus brings out its natural sweetness and texture, while basil and lemon add a bright, refreshing finish.

Ajillo with Kagoshima Moon Scallops and Hokkaido Octopus

This ajillo brings together the flavors of Japan’s northern and southern seas, featuring moon shells from Eguchi Beach in Kagoshima and octopus from Tomamae, Hokkaido — both sourced from fishers committed to sustainable practices. The moon shell’s large, springy scallops offer a natural sweetness of the sea, while the octopus adds rich umami that infuses the olive oil. Perfect with bread or tossed with pasta, each jar is a touch of indulgence made with two whole, rare moon shells rarely found outside the region.
